Jack Shea, the grandfather of the Shea Family, is a two-time Olympic gold medal winner during the 1932 Winter Olympic Games in speed skating.

Jimmy Shea, the grandson, captured gold in the skeleton events during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Jimmy's grandfather unfortunately passed away in a tragic car accident just before the 2002 Winter Olympics and Jimmy honored his grandfather by carrying a photograph of him in his racing helmet which is now a iconic photo in tribute to his late grandfather after winning the gold medal and looking into the sky holding the picture to share the moment with his biggest supporter his grandfather. Lake Placid honored Jack after his tragic death by honoring him with a drive around the speed skating oval where he won his two gold medals in 1932 one last time.

Jim Shea the father of Jimmy and the son of Jack is also an Olympic skier that competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics making this a three generation Olympian family a first of its kind.
