1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics Jersey Patch — 1979–80 Season

Vintage Original 1979-80 1980 Winter Olympics commemorative patch worn by the members of the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabers during the 1979-80 season as ordered by the Governor of New York State to show support for the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team pre-olympic and for the rest of the season these patches adorned the NHL game jerseys. The New York Rangers were the only team in New York State at the time not to have ties directly with the Olympic team (although Mark Pavelich and Dave Silk along with Bill Baker from the 1980 USA hockey team would eventually join the New York Rangers and we're not part of the team at the time so the Rangers chose not to wear the patches. The New York Islanders on the other hand had their Rookie Star defenseman Ken Morrow of the 1980 USA hockey team go on to win the Stanley Cup with the Islanders in the same year after Morrow would capture gold at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. The Buffalo Sabers wore these special patches on their Jersey as they had direct ties with team members Rob McClanahan and Mike Ramsey of the 1980 USA hockey team. The Buffalo Sabers would also play in a pre Olympic game against the 1980 USA hockey team in early February 1980 and adorned the special patches during that game.

This patch has never been mounted. it is vintage and original it does show it's age with some discoloring consistent with being close to 50 years old. Patch measures 2 inches wide x 2-3/4 high.
